The Cherohala Skyway
It took over 30 years to complete this Tennessee/North Carolina scenic highway. It is known as North Carolina's most expensive road, sporting a price tag of $100,000,000 for 15 NC miles and 21 miles in Tennessee. First proposed in the late 1950's, the road was finished and dedicated in late 1996.
The name comes from the fact that the highway connects the Cherokee National Forest to the Nantahala National Forest, thus the name "Chero--Hala"
Being a relatively new road, it is in pristine condition and is getting a well deserved reputation for its long sweeping curves and beautiful views.
Some say the Cherohala rivals the views from the Blue Ridge Parkway. That bold claim can only be proved for yourself, It is an awesome road, but, in my opinion, there is only one BRP. My suggestion is to save the dilema and ride them both. They are only 30-40 miles from each other. Either way, the Cherohala Skyway deserves its reputation as one of the premiere motorcycle roads in the country.
